The Guardians of the Veil are officially nameless and non-existent, the Pentacle's dirty little secret. In Britain, the Wise refer to the Order as MI-11 and its members use no designation at all.
The Order's name is a nod to a defunct branch of the British secret service. Their prime directive is protecting magic, a sacred and fragile resource, from misuse and corruption. Mundane citizens present as much a threat as Awakened factions. MI-11 seeks out agents of Supernal enemies in the populace and gathers intelligence for the Royal Society.
By using modern communication and ancient methods, MI-11 wages a shadow war to control information. New battlefronts stretch across phone wires and digital media, while seasoned veterans work through false fronts and cults to control networks of informants and sleeper agents.
Media influence ranks among their top concerns, for he who controls the tabloids and the television shapes public view. Guardians scrape stories clean of damning information or leak sensitive information to destroy their opposition, a war waged against the Seers for generations. Their knives are out for servants of the Abyss, MI-11's personal nemesis, and they spare no suspected cultist or scelestus from their wrath.

Stories and gossip surround all the Orders, and the Wise might grow rich on learning valuable secrets or discovering the false ones.
Historians say the English carried off a fragment of the Holy Rood — the True Cross which Jesus was crucified on — in 1346, and kept their war booty at Durham Cathedral until its destruction in the 16th century. The Wise of Caledonia think otherwise. Fragmentary records and bits of rumour suggest the treasured relic never crossed Scotland's borders or, more likely, found its way home again for safekeeping with the Guardians. Whether fact or fiction, the Order will never tell.
