| Old Town -- Local business owners along Cowgate are suffering from a rash of break-ins, police heard.
Leslie Archibald, 34, says she has lost over E1,000 in merchandise since mid-August, when the troubles began. In spite of new locks and other security measures, Ms. Archibald says the thefts have continued.
"The [thefts] happen after-hours. I thought it might be tourists having a laugh," Ms. Archibald stated, "but I'm not the only one. The neighbouring shops have been targeted."
A hostel worker reported loud bangs in the "Tarts and Hearts of Lothian" about 2.30am. Responding officers discovered no signs of forced entry. Residents of the area are asked to report any tips to a special helpline.
