Mage.png CharGen: Walkthrough

Room 1: Starting Room

In this room of CharGen, you select the fundamental details about your character, such as Path and Order. These options are performed in order. You start the process with choose, and then pick your path and order. Take a moment to set up your basic information with @desc, shortdesc, and @sex. You can change these later.

order <choice>

Room 2: Attributes

Here you spend Attribute points to determine your character's innate abilities. Attributes fall into Mental, Physical, and Social categories. You choose which to assign 5, 4, and 3 points to respectively. You can raise an Attribute with set Name to #. Don't like your choices? Use reset to clear all your selections. A bonus to Resolve or Composure based on your Path is added at the end of CharGen.

Going back from the Skills room will reset your Attributes.

Commands
Description
set <Attribute> to #
Raises or lowers an Attribute.
reset
Wipes your Attributes.

Room 3: Skills

In this stage of CharGen, you pick Mental, Physical, and Social skills. You have 11, 7, and 4 points to divide between these categories. The set command assigns dots, and reset wipes all your choices for this room only.

+Spec adds or removes skill specializations, narrow fields of expertise. Specialties provide an excellent opportunity to personalize your stats. You must have at least 1 dot in a Skill to qualify for a specialization in it. Your Order rote specialties will be added at the end of CharGen.

Commands
Description
set <skill> to #
Raises or lowers a Skill.
+spec/add <skill>=<specialty>
Adds a specialty.
+spec/rem <skill>=<specialty>
Deletes a specialty
reset
Wipes your Skills.

Room 4: Merits

Revelations offers a variety of merits, some of which come from official Mage supplements or other nWoD books. We recommend you read descriptions carefully before picking a merit to be sure you meet prerequisites and understand what it does.

Commands here include merits <category>, which lists all merit options; buy and set to purchase merits; and bump to raise power stats. Erase deletes a single merit while reset clears all selections in the room. Mages gain High Speech and Status (Order) 1 for free at the end of CharGen.

Commands
Description
merits <category>
Lists a category of Merits.
buy <merit>
Sets a Merit.
set <merit> to #
Sets a scaling Merit.
bump Gnosis
Raises Gnosis by 1.
erase <merit>

reset

Room 5: Powers

Once you reach this room, you start selecting the powers granted by your template. Mages automatically get two Arcana based on their Path, and you may choose one or two others as you like. Choices lists available Arcana, and set adds or subtracts points. Reset clears all your stats for this room.

Commands
Description
choices
Lists Arcana.
set <Arcanum> to #
Raises or lowers an Arcanum.
reset
Wipes all Arcana.

Room 6: Mage

After selecting your Arcana, you have 6 dots of Rotes to spend. Rotes are the codified forms of spells. You can purchase a rote in any Arcanum on your +sheet, as long as the rote's rating does not exceed the Arcanum's dots. The rotes command lists all rotes by Arcanum. Nimbus sets the description of your mage's unique aura. All these details are visible on +sheet/magic.

Commands
Description
rotes <Arcana>
Lists an Arcanum's rotes.
buy <Arcana> <Rote>

erase <Rote>
Deletes a rote.
nimbus <description>
